The pass on sale today is a QR ticket on your phone, sold in three versions, and it lists the Tombori River Cruise and the Wonder Cruise among its attractions. Here is how it works and how it differs from the e-Pass.

The version you can buy this year

Start with which pass exists, since the name has covered more than one product. The pass sold from March 25, 2026 to March 31, 2027 costs 3,500 yen for 1 day and 5,000 yen for 2 days.1,11 Two airport editions sit beside it: an Itami Airport version at 3,800 yen for 1 day and 5,400 yen for 2 days, and a Kansai International Airport 28-hour ticket at 5,300 yen.12,13 The prices are the same for adults and children, and passes for children are not sold, so a child takes an adult pass.2,14

Do not confuse it with the older pass. The Bureau's earlier Osaka Amazing Pass site says sales on that website are now closed and that it describes a pass valid until April 30, 2024.15 That site once advertised more than 40 sightseeing spots and unlimited trains and buses for a day, which is the idea the current pass keeps, now sold through a different site as a digital ticket.16,3 When a blog quotes a price, check its date against the figures on the current pass site.

The current pass allows about 40 sightseeing spots and unlimited rides on all Osaka Metro lines and Osaka City Bus routes with some routes excluded, the New Tram, and Hankyu, Hanshin, Keihan, Kintetsu and Nankai trains mainly running in Osaka City.3 The pass site names Osaka Castle, the Umeda Sky Building Kuchu Teien Observatory, Tsutenkaku, the Tempozan Ferris Wheel and the Tombori River Cruise among the attractions.4 The airport editions add their own rides, covered below.

The e-Pass price is left to its own site; the other two figures are as the pass site and Osaka Metro state them.1,24

Buying it and starting the clock

The pass is bought online and lives on your phone. The pass site says purchases are by credit card only and that the pass is sold through its website.7 It is only available for people with a mobile device, and because up to 4 passes can be bought in one purchase, a person without a smartphone can travel with someone who has one.6 The pass site adds that tickets can be transferred to someone else after purchase, up to four per transaction.17

Timing needs care. A ticket is valid for three months from the date of purchase and must be activated by March 31, 2027.11 The day on a 1-day or 2-day ticket runs from 3:00 AM to 2:59 AM the next day, and activating it between 0:00 and 2:59 AM means it cannot be used after 3:00 AM.8 Start the pass after 3:00 AM on the morning you will use it, and do it just before the first ride rather than at the hotel the night before.

Money-back rules are strict. Refunds are available for unused tickets within the validity period.22 Once a ticket has been activated, it can no longer be handed to someone else or refunded.21 The 28-hour airport ticket runs for 28 hours from the first use.23 If your trip dates may move, hold the pass unactivated until you are certain of the day, and treat the activation button as the point of no return.

Prices as the Osaka Amazing Pass site and Osaka Metro state them; the Eco Card is transport only and the passes add attraction entries.24,1,12,13

At the gate, on the bus, at the door

Here is how to use an Osaka Metro pass of this kind on trains: the phone shows a QR code that is scanned at any ticket gate that recognizes QR codes, one person at a time.18 On buses you hold the phone over the QR reader, and authentication is only required when exiting.29 The Bureau gives the Osaka City Bus a flat fare of 210 yen on all sections with some exceptions, which is the sort of short hop the pass absorbs.30 Keep the phone charged and the screen bright when you reach a reader.

At attractions you show the QR code to staff or scan it at a designated terminal, and each attraction may be used once during the validity period.31 The pass cannot be used by presenting a screenshot or a screen printout, so the live ticket page must open on the phone.19 Express reserved-seat trains of Kintetsu, Nankai, Keihan and Hankyu need an additional fee on top of the pass.32 The pass site also says regular fees listed for each facility do not have to be paid by a pass holder.33

The airport editions work differently. The Kansai International Airport version allows a one-way Nankai Railway ticket from Kansai Airport Station to Namba Station, along with the Osaka City rides and about 40 attractions.28 Namba to Kansai Airport Station is not allowed, so the pass cannot carry you back to the airport.34 Namba Station is the hub next to Dotonbori. A first evening on the canal is a short walk from where that ticket drops you.

Using it for a Dotonbori cruise

The pass site lists the Tombori River Cruise among its attractions, with departures every half hour from 11:00 to 21:00 and the first and last departures subject to change.4,36 The ticket must be exchanged at the reception desk for a designated time slot, and the site recommends doing that in the daytime because evening cruises sell out quickly.20 You cannot board when all seats are taken, and phone reservations are not accepted.37 The regular fee of 2,000 yen for an adult is the amount the pass replaces.38,33

The Wonder Cruise has its own entry on the pass site, with hours of 16:10 to 21:30.5 Online reservations have priority, a fully booked cruise may put you on a waitlist, and advance reservations are recommended.35 The site notes covered seating in case of rain, bathrooms and permission to bring your own drink.39 It also says there is no refund if the attraction could not be used, so a pass day that clouds over still costs the full price.40

Our own GetYourGuide cruise is a separate product from either of those, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. A pass holder who wants a fixed slot without queuing at a reception desk can weigh that against the pass's free entry, and a pass holder with a spare evening can take both. The boats guide on this site sets the piers, hours and fares of all the canal cruises side by side so you can choose the slot that fits your pass day.

Amazing Pass, e-Pass or Enjoy Eco Card

Three tickets get confused. The difference between the Osaka Amazing Pass and the e-Pass is the transport: the Bureau describes the e-pass as free entry to over 25 tourist spots with one QR code and says trains and buses are not included.9 The e-Pass usage guide says you can enter more than 25 facilities for free once at each place, valid only on the day of use, and that fees for trains and buses are not included in the price.41,10 The Amazing Pass counts about 40 spots and bundles the rides.3

The e-Pass also has stricter rules. You must enter the next facility more than 30 minutes after leaving the previous one, and cancellations after purchase are not permitted.27,42 Its facility list includes both Dotonbori cruises: the Tombori River Cruise at a regular fee of 2,000 yen, where the pass is shown at the ticket counter to exchange for a boarding pass, and the Wonder Cruise Dotombori route of 20 minutes.43,44 The Bureau says Tombori admission is free with the e-pass.45

The transport-only choice is the Enjoy Eco Card. It gives unlimited rides on Osaka Metro and Osaka City Bus lines for one day, costs 820 yen for an adult (620 yen on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) and 310 yen for a child, and shows a discount at about 20 sightseeing spots.25,24,26 It is a transport ticket with discounts, not an entry pass, so a day of metro hops plus one paid boat can still come out cheaper than a pass.

Before you activate

A checklist for pass day

Have ready3

  • A credit card, as the site takes cards only7
  • A charged smartphone with the camera allowed in the browser6
  • A date that will not move, since activation is final21

On the day3

  • Activate after 3:00 AM, just before the first ride8
  • Open the live ticket, not a screenshot19
  • Scan again when you leave a bus29

For the cruise3

  • Swap the Tombori ticket for a slot in the daytime20
  • Reserve the Wonder Cruise online first35
  • Check each attraction once only31

Whether the arithmetic works

Add up what you would actually enter. The Tombori River Cruise has a regular fee of 2,000 yen, and the Tsutenkaku Tower observation deck, open 9:00 to 21:45 with the last entry at 21:15, has one of 1,500 yen.38,46 Those two entries already come to the 3,500 yen that a 1-day pass costs, before a single train ride.1 The deck needs a time slot booked at the facility, so build it into the plan rather than turning up.46

Other entries on the list are cheaper. The Osaka Castle Museum is 1,200 yen, the HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel in Umeda 1,000 yen and the Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum near Namba 700 yen.47,48,49 A day that adds the castle museum to the cruise and the deck brings the entry fees well past the pass price, and every metro or bus ride is on top of that.47,1 The pass does not pay for a slow day; it pays for a day packed with entries and moving between them.

If your plan is the canal and its neighbourhood only, the maths is different. A cruise and a walk through Dotonbori are an evening, and the pass would sit mostly unused.38 Then a bookable cruise with free cancellation, or an Enjoy Eco Card for the ride from your hotel, is the lighter purchase.24 Decide from your own list of places, count the fees on the pass site, and let the number of entries, not the name of the pass, make the case.
